Just Talkin’ ‘Bout Scientology

Isaac Hayes, who sang the theme song to Shaft and voiced the ladykiller chef in South Park, has quit his role on the cartoon because they finally got around to insulting scientology.

He’s a complicated man, and no one understands him but his thetan.

You have to read the response from Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s lawyers to the fact that a repeat of an episode “outing” Tom Cruise as gay was taken off the air.

All the talk that I’ve seen about Chef quitting has been focusing on whether he quit for the reason he says (South Park has repeatedly crossed “the line” regarding certain religious issues) or for the reason that everyone assumes (South Park finally got around to insulting Scientology). I’d like to see more about whether South Park actually crossed that line, or is such a line exisits. I guess I’m just confused about why caricatured comics overseas have caused so many problems while South Park hasn’t…
