Short Game Review: The New Yorker Cartoon Caption Game
This is a fun board game, and I’m not just saying that because I totally dominated. You write captions to New Yorker cartoons; you win by guessing who did which caption, and by writing the funniest caption. It would be a lot more fun without a board or dice, though. Pick a point total—maybe 3 times the number of players—and replace all references to “move a space” with “gain a point.” When I played with people, we ignored the egg timer anyway, and it went fine. Now we’ve just cut the number of different game materials down by over half, and the packaging just shrunk by at least as much, and the New Yorker just saved some money. Too bad the party games industry isn’t really seeking out design consultants.
