Short Movie Review: 300
Well, at least now I see what the president of Iran was so pissed about. The movie is an interesting visual spectacle (more in terms of the fighting than the kind of pointless bare breasts), but the story made me a little uncomfortable. It’s not just about a (white, “free”) king who starts a war against the (dark-skinned, godless, slave-owning) Persians. They make a big deal about it being an illegal war, declared against the wishes of politicians because it’s the right thing for “freedom.” Anyone who opposes a troop surge is secretly a traitor working with the enemy. I think this would work way better as propaganda, though, if our president were on the front lines in Iraq. Oh, also, the animation during the end credits was pretty cool.
