Short Movie Review: Resident Evil
For a video game movie, this is surprisingly watchable. Ostensibly a zombie movie, it feels more like a sci-fi action movie with marines and a pleasant if predictable amnesia subplot. Also, there is a creepy little girl who is also a computer, which is clearly a winning combination. The only really laughably stupid bit is the FX job done on the big monster, which looks like the team from Robocop 2 traveled through time to do some more animation here in the future. Narrative cliches are cool by me as long as they are executed with decent stunts and cinematography, but CG brain-monsters with poor lighting effects make me laugh (at you, not with you).
