Short Movie Review: Call of Cthulhu

This adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s most famous short horror story was short and sweet, clocking in at 47 minutes. Though produced within the last couple years, it’s made to look and sound like an old silent film, right down to the blurry and grainy DVD menu (shot in “Mythoscope!”). You could tell it’s not really that old—the picture is still too crisp, the cuts too quick, the movement on screen too fluid—but once you get past that, I think, the whole thing just comes across as charming in its visual style, appropriately overacted, and fascinating for the story itself. All in all, a fun movie to pop in once the trick-or-treaters have gone home to bed.
