More on Beards

Remember the beard coin? Well, someone else remembered it, too, and “Jenny” offers this grain of knowledge in a comment that follows the post:

I go to BYU – the LDS/Mormon University. Beards aren’t allowed as part of the dress code here (moustaches are okay), but if you have a religious/medical/performing arts (bearded character in a play) excuse, you can file some papers with the grooming and dress office and with committee approval you can get… wait for it… a beard card. Without flashing a beard card, no one will serve you on campus in any of the eateries, the testing center, or the offices and you’re open to admonishment from the professors during class. Not quite the same as a cool coin, but still a similar (and lasting)tradition.

I definitely still want the coin, but I’d treasure such a card if I could get my hands on one. If you are a friend of mine and happen to have a friend at BYU, consider this a Christmas gift option for me.

I know someone who went to BYU, so I was gonna look into it for you. But then I found this article: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,595067258,00.html.

Apparently the “beard card” is your student ID with a picture of you with a beard. So it won’t really help you.
