Short Game Review: Too Human

This was worth the ten bucks I paid for it, but probably not really any more than that. There’s no “role-playing” in this role-playing game, just intricate inventory management, combo-intensive combat, and infrequent but and interminably long cut scenes. The uncontrollable camera is a pain and the controls are frequently unresponsive, but the hack-n-slash gameplay can be interesting when you finally get the hang of the game’s quirks. I feel like the combat would lend itself well to cooperative play online; unfortunately the story doesn’t lend itself to two protagonists at all. The narrative is so poorly paced that I hadn’t even realized I’d beaten the game until quite awhile afterward. (It let me spend several minutes buying weapons and repainting armor before informing me that I’d already fought the final boss.) It’s stupid, but an addictive and sometimes engaging stupid. I just hope I didn’t make it sound so annoying that nobody will play it with me online, as I’m looking forward to trying the online co-op.
