What Do I need to Get Started?
Welcome aboard! The big part of the hunt is being there for the weekend on which it happens, but in order for things to go smoothly there is a decent amount of preparation and planning we must do as a team. This wiki is our place to plan and discuss things so please explore what we've put up here to keep yourself (and us!) in the loop. Tony 23:46, 5 December 2007 (EST)
Wiki Accounts and Finding your way around the wiki
To get an account: email Tony at tony@doombot.com with your full name and preferred email indicated. By default your user name will be your first name if that is available. You cannot view any of the pages of this wiki except this first page without an account.
Once you have a wiki account you will also have a user page (see list of user pages).
I have my account, what's next?
Please do the following:
- Edit or update your user page to include your contact information and something about you. (example user pages: User:Jeremy User:Tony User:Armenb User:Andria etc.
- (To edit you page go to the page and click the edit tab in the menu bar at the top of the page. To learn about formatting wiki text you may wish to copy and paste the wiki code from other users pages, you may also wish to check out Andria's Tutorial and guide to wiki editing.)
- Add yourself to the 2008 Team Roster !
- Participating in person? : Look through the supplies page and identify what you intend to bring and make additions to the list you as needed.
- Participating Remotely ? Familiarize yourself with the remote info page.
- Check out other people pages on the [[2008_team| roster] to get a feel for who our team is and to know who you'll be working with at the hunt.
Our team for 2008 is smaller than previous years so we will probably be less reliant on using a wiki, but it will still be an important place to jot down notes on in progress puzzles, keep our two remote groups organized, and prepare thing for the mystery hunt in terms of supplies and general planning. Getting you user page set up will serve as practice/refresher in basic wiki use.
Wikis are scary! Why would you make me do this? I am sad!
FACT: Wikis save lives! Sort of! Wikis can take a bit of getting used to, and the wiki software we use is unfortunately known for features and flexibility not ease of use. If you are stuck or frustrated let us know (tony@doombot.com) and we can help you find your way around and learn what you need to participate. Do let us know, we want everyone up to speed on the wiki so they can be in the loop and part of pre-hunt planning and discussions.
Mailing List
We will have a mailing list soon, first we need to figure out a team name. The mailing list will probably be hosted via Google Groups unless there is a better way to go about doing that.
What is Our New Team Name?
